How can I tell if a transaction was processed via an EMV card or not?

In most cases you will be able to see exactly how a specific transaction was processed on your transaction reports in your online portal. Although the specific placement and terminology will vary, in general you will see one of these four transaction types listed:

• Swiped: The card was swiped through the magnetic stripe reader on your terminal (non-EMV)
• EMV: The card was inserted into the chip reader on the front of your terminal
• Contactless: The card was held over the contactless reader on your terminal. This is an EMV transaction. (not all terminals have this functionality)
• Entered: The card number was manually entered (non-EMV)
